
Lim Family Generations
The Lim Family” grew to be an award-winning family musical group known throughout Hawaii and the world. Descending from North Kohala on the Big Island of Hawai’i, Mary Ann, Nani, Sonny and Lorna of the Lim Family have been a staple of Hawaiian Music for 35 years. With 7 recordings, two which hold the coveted Na Hoku Hanohano Awards for “Traditional Hawaiian Music” and one for “Group of the Year”,
Known for their angelic harmony, they each specialize in specific instruments. With Mary Ann and Nani on Ukulele, Sonny on guitar, and Lorna on the upright bass, together, their instruments and voices combine to create the sweetest of sounds of traditional and contemporary Hawaii. In 2012 they received the Hawai’i Academy of Recording Arts Lifetime Achievement Award for Hawaiian Music.
The transcendence of Hawaiian culture through generations is of high value to The Lim Family. Currently, The Lim Family is introducing the next generation of performers. Nieces’ Namakana, “Miss Aloha Hula 2006” and Nanea Davis Lim along with Nani’s children Manaola and Asialynn Yap and Lorna’s daughter Wehileimamo Ryder Lim are the future of Hula for the Family. Meanwhile, Sonny’s daughter Anuhea is a Slack Key virtuoso of the new era.
